1.6/1.4 THP engine turbo. Peugeot/citroen cars that are equipped with the 1.6/1.4 THP engine turbo or are normally aspirated are also a cause for concern. We are finding many problems relating to cooling fans are actually the result of misfire due to poor maintenance.

I think is defect problem and soon or later will be a recall for all these engine. I have more 100 fleet cars. None with more than 2 years. Fiats, Renault, Nissan, Opel 1.6 Hdi, only the Peugeots and Citroens with 1.5 blueHdi are having this big issue. The other cars the service maintenance in 30000 km intervals, zero problems.
I have just bought a 2005 307 1.6 hdi with 70k on the clock. When collected, it started ok from cold however there was white/greyish smoke from the exhaust. Same issue on on my 207 1.6 HDI - Solved like this - found the temp sensor on the radiator which controls the cooling fan. On mine it is on the top right corner (looking from the front) in front of the battery under the air intake thingy. It was green with corrosion. New one fitted, few quid from well known auction site, problem solved.
